I have just received a glowing review from a Los Angeles, CA filmmaker and studio executive.
Ms Rodriguez has invited me to discuss the possibility of turning my book What Varietal is That? into a film!
Wow! How good is that?
If you can’t wait for the cinema release you can buy the book here.
Now making a movie about a wine book which has even less plot development than a telephone book (remember them?) presents a challenge. So we need some stars to play the leading roles to bring out the vivid world depicted in the book.
Here’s who I will be suggesting to Ms Rodriguez
The Grand Old Lady Chardonnay Judi Dench or Maggie Smith
Sangiovese - a classic Italian, maybe De Niro or Stallone
Shiraz - an Aussie icon - Bryan Brown or Russell Crow
Albarino has to be Penelope Cruz
Pinot Noir a flabby passé Frenchman, perhaps Depadieu
French Sauvignon Blanc - Audrey tatou
NZ Sauvignon Blanc - Rebecca Gibney
Of course the cast will be much larger. We will have to fit Cate Balincett and Nicole Kidman in somewhere, perhaps as the rival sisters Marsanne and Roussanne.
Does anyone have a trainable pet sheep to play Pecorino?
Who is your favourite Actor? Could they play a grape variety? Click the burron and leave a comment.
Wine Map Sale
I don’t retail De Long Maps or the Varietal Table any more but I notice that they are having a holiday sale. 1
Coupon code HOLIDAY23. Expires 12 December.
The sale only applies to physical maps and the wine notebooks, but the digital maps are a bargain all year round.
If you don’t have enough wall space for all of these poster-sized maps then perhaps this is an opportunity to get the boxed set of foldable bookshelf maps. Same size, but easily stored.

Durif should be played by E Kelly
(Unquestionably ballsy but a bit temperamental on occasions)
Thanks Jim, we will be casting the casting net far and wide!
