The theme of the next Taste and Talk will be Open That Bottle Night.
In the late 1990s, New York wine writers Dorothy Gaiter and John Brecher invented the annual "Open That Bottle Night" (OTBN), encouraging their readers to open a symbolically significant bottle, and then share their stories. Since its inauguration in 2000, the event is always scheduled for the last Saturday in February.
As we normally meet on Thursdays, Darby’s Taste and Talk for February will be a preview of Open That Bottle Night. So for our online event we can talk about what we will be opening later in the month with our in person friends.
What will you be opening with your friends on the last Saturday in February?
Maybe you have a bottle, or perhaps a few bottles, that you have been keeping for a special occasion but with age it might be slipping away from drinkability. OTBN can be a prompt for you to get a few friends to share that bottle, and the stories that go with it.
Our Taste and Talk will be held on Thursday 16th February at 5pm. The session will be held via Zoom. Participants meet to talk about alternative varieties, usually with a glass in their hand. This week we can talk about that bottle of 1960s Rutherglen Red or some such, but perhaps we will be sipping something a little more palatable.
Subscribers to this Newsletter will get an email earlier on Thursday with the login details. (If you are not subscribed please do so now, via the button at the bottom of this newsletter).
You might like to forward this email to a friend who could be interested.

Malbec day is coming! If you want a quick look at just how good this variety can be, then check out this offer. It includes one of my favourites - Matriarch and Rogues 2019 ‘Jean’ Malbec from the Clare Valley. There are five others including the famed Bleasdale Second Innings Malbec from Langhorne Creek.
