Nero d’Avola is a Sicilian red wine variety which has made quite a hit in Australia. The chart below shows the main regions where Nero is produced. The data is derived from Vinodiversity’s exclusive Vindata spreadsheet.

As well as the regions shown on this chart, there are 18 other regions where the variety is grown by a small number of producers. The numbers are necessarily imprecise because grapes are often transported across regional boundaries.

Note that the South Australian winemakers, especially those in McLaren Vale, are leading the charge, as they do in the adoption of most new varieties.
