Rating Points or Numerical Metaphors
Last week in our Taste and Talk session we discussed the usefulness or otherwise of rating points in describing wines.
Our friend Manuel Malfeito Ferreira from Instituto Superior de Agronomia in Lisbon was unable to join the discussion last week. However he later sent a couple of chapters of the book in press Mastering the art of enjoying wine, from Enology to Enosophy by Manuel Malfeito Ferreira and Virgílio Loureiro. The book is currently being translated from Portuguese.
These chapters summarise the authors’ arguments in favour of regarding raing points as numerical metaphors rather than as hard data.
