For years we argued about whether is more correctly called Zinfandel (USA) or Primitivo (Italy), but recent evidence gives it a Croatian origin.

Zinfandel/Primitivo in Australia

Some wineries call it Zinfandel, some Primitivo. It starts out as the same variety but the styles can differ. Perhaps the name chosen depends on how the wine is to be marketed.
